Our Basketball Evaluation and Registration Process

Evaluations: Unfortunately, we cannot allow any player to participate in evaluations unless the player is registered.  We will not have walk-up registration so please register on time and bring your receipt with you. Returning players may register by September 6 at the rate of $300. Anything later than September 6 raises the fee to $325. (Price is subject to change if cities and school districts raise gym rental fees).

Thank you for your participation in CYO and we look forward to another exciting year of St. Raymond CYO Basketball.

Our Cross Country Registration Process

Cross country is open to all kids in grades 3-8. However, due to limits on the numbers we can accommodate this year combined with the amount of returners we have, we are only accepting names for a waitlist at this time. Please email me at if your son or daughter is interested and I will put them on the list. There is no evaluation for cross country.

Warm Regards,

Tim Sbranti
Athletic Director

How old does my child have to be to play basketball?

Saint Raymond's CYO Basketball is for boys and girls in grades 3-8. All boys and girls in grades 3-8 are invited to sign up. We are no longer accepting 2nd graders in the program due to a lack of gym space.

Can I register in person?

Registration is on-line only through our website.  A registration link will appear on the right side of the website when registration opens. If you are unable to register on-line you can contact Sean Kullman at

What are the eligibility requirements?

You must meet one of the following criteria to play for St. Raymond. Please note, returning players will have a two-week window to register prior to the general registration. This period is only for returning players (a returning player is a player who played for St. Raymond CYO the previous season.)

  1. Attend St. Raymond School.
  2. Be enrolled in St. Raymond CCD for this year and the previous year.
  3. Live in the SR Parish boundaries (Dublin City Limits, or in San Ramon from MonteVideo south including Windemere if you live off East Branch Parkway).  If you are not sure please check at the following website:

****** If you register your child and you  do not meet one of the three eligibility requirement a $50 refund fee is assessed.

How long is the season?

Evaluations will be held in late August or early September. Season practices will begin the first week of October. The regular season is 10 games and there is also a post-season for teams who make the playoffs. The season generally runs from October to late January or mid-February.

Where and when are practices?

Practices begin in October and there are generally two practices per-week depending on gym space.  Practices take place in Dublin and San Ramon. Practice days and times are dependent upon the coaches schedule. Please remember that our coaches, board, and athletic director are all volunteers.

Can my child pick his team or be moved from one team to another?

No. All teams are final.  We want to create fair and balanced teams. Once your child is selected for a team, there are no refunds. Much goes into making this volunteer program work, which includes reserving gym space and other costs.

Are players allowed to register at a higher grade level in order to play up a grade level?

No. Any player who attempts to play-up either through registering incorrectly or misrepresenting their child's age is subject to removal from the program with no refund.  Please understand this rule exists to serve all children.  Catholic Youth Organization is a ministry of volunteers serving children in a manner that serves the common good and embraces the values of the Gospels.

What are the fees?

The fees for the 2019-2020 season will be $285 per player.  There are discounts for 3 or more players in the same family.

After July 15th all registrations will be waitlisted.  Registration may close early if our program reaches capacity early.

No Refunds will be given after August 1st for those who registered on-time. A $50 fee is assessed for any cancelations prior to the August 1st deadline.  Please understand that we incur costs that must be paid prior to the start of the season.

Do you offer financial assistance?

Financial assistance is available, please contact the Athletic Director if you need assistance.  Those who receive financial assistance based solely on need are required to donate time to the league.

Will the league provide a uniform?

No, there will be an additional fee of $38 for the uniform shirt and shorts which your child will keep and can use for multiple years.  (There is a possibility this fee will change this season. I will update the site when I receive final pricing.) For returning players with uniforms we will ask for the number so that we do not duplicate numbers.

Registration is now open for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls only!

UPDATED August 29, 2021

Thank you to the many who have reached out and expressed interest and enthusiasm about the CYO Basketball program for the 2021-22 season. At this time, I need to pass along an important update to all of you related to the CYO program in the Tri-Valley.

Due to ongoing health and safety concerns from the rise of the COVID Delta variant (with related limitations for community gym rentals in neighboring communities), the Pastors of St. Raymond's, St. Joan's, St. Michael's and CCOP have all decided to limit participation this year only to girls and boys in grades 7-8. St. Isidore's will be running an intramural program for grades 3-6 and will also participate in the Tri-Valley League for grades 7-8.

This is obviously disappointing news for kids in grades 3-6 who were looking forward to the upcoming season. It looked like we were poised to move forward, but the developments of the past few weeks have just created too many hurdles (and concerns). It is my hope and expectation that we can bring those grades back next year.

The good news is that we plan on running a full program with American and National teams for both boys and girls in grades 7-8 with a regular league schedule, playoffs, and participation this year in the Diocesan playoffs. We plan on having evaluations sometime in mid-September, practices starting in early October, and the first games beginning November 7th.

For kids in grades 3-6, we are looking to offer some outdoor camps on the blacktop at St. Raymond's at little or no cost. We want to provide opportunities to keep those kids engaged and work on their skills development in the absence of a full season. More on that to follow.

Now that we finally have some clarity on the league format this year, I would expect that we will be opening up registration in the coming days for kids in grades 7-8.

Although this is not the news I had hoped to share, I am excited and thankful about finally getting underway and offering a great experience for our older kids who have last so many opportunities to play in the past 18 months.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Thank you for your patience and understanding. God bless.

LOOKING FOR COACHES:  We are looking for volunteers who are willing to coach this season. Please email me at with your preference for gender, grade level, and whether you want to coach American or National. In addition, any information you can provide about your previous coaching experience will also be helpful.

Warm Regards,

Tim Sbranti, Athletic Director, St. Raymond CYO
